Born humbly as an evangelical South Jersey country girl, Karly always felt the most alive when enraptured in the miracle of music. Whether singing at the pulpit or to a sold out group of theatre goers, music was Karly's therapy before she even knew what therapy was.
As a child, Karly grew up being trauma bonded to her religion. Not her faith. Her religion. This trauma bond that she and her community experienced was taught and maintained as a coping mechanism to face life's hardships.
But like all trauma bonds, these coping mechanisms come at a price. Karly's price was severe anxiety masked by shyness as well as an identity that always felt as if it was being shoved down her throat by man-made doctrine verses the divine which she always knew shined within her.
As a young adult, Karly found answers to her deepest questions. But she didn't find them sitting in pews or even with her head in a Bible. She found her answers within the walls of mental institutions. Between these walls in the halls where the outcasts reside. In a place where everything is stripped away and you are forced to either face yourself and the world or become numb to it. It was here that the sheltered bubble in which she was blessedly born into had officially burst, and she would never be the same.
In September 2023, the most Godly woman Karly ever knew went home to be with her Lord. Her name was Joan Jeffers. Joan was the one who taught Karly from a young age how to "fly humble high." She was also the first person in Karly's life to offer judgement free grace when Karly faced one of the hardest times in her life: her divorce.
Joan always encouraged Karly to keep writing after a middle school teacher of Karly's had pointed out her ability. Karly continued to write poems when she needed an emotional release, but had never tried to create original melodies.
With the new year of January 2024 in full swing, Karly's musical therapist and coach who truly understands Karly's psyche unlocked a newfound talent of Karly's. And the ideas haven't stopped flowing since.
